UNFCCC10 June 2014: The UNFCCC Secretariat has launched a Capacity-building Portal, a tool developed to help monitor and review capacity built to better mitigate and adapt to climate change. Users are able to customize search criteria, visualize data through interactive maps, bubbles and multicolored pie charts, line up results in tables and print them.

Climate Adaptation Marketplace Launched on Coral Triangle Day [viewed]

Coral Triangle Initiative9 June 2014: Coral Triangle Day, which took place under the theme ‘Shared waters, Shared solutions,' celebrated the marine biodiversity of the Coral Triangle region, which includes Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Solomon Islands and Timor-Leste. Events included community beach cleanups, film screenings, fisher education programs, sustainable seafood dinners, twitter campaigns and the launch of a 360° seaview infographic.

Brazil Voluntarily Submits Key Data on Emission Reductions in Forest Sector [viewed]

brazil-unfccc6 June 2014: Brazil submitted information and data on its greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions in the forest sector to the UNFCCC Secretariat, becoming the first developing country to voluntarily submit such data for assessment by technical experts. This information and data form the basis for Brazil's forest reference emission level (FREL) for the Amazon biome, where Brazil has been collecting forest data since 1988.

World Oceans Day8 June 2014: The UN commemorated World Oceans Day on 8 June 2014, under the theme, 'Together we have the power to protect the ocean!' The Day also lent special attention to the designation of 2014 as the International Year of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and fell on the 20th anniversary of the entry into force of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

WED 2014 Spotlights SIDS [viewed]

worlddayunep5 June 2014: This year's World Environment Day (WED), hosted by Barbados and celebrated under the banner ‘Raise your Voice, Not the Sea Level', focused on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and the risks and opportunities they face, particularly with respect to climate change.
