CDM Executive Board Launches Calls for Inputs [viewed]

30 March 2009: The Executive Board of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) has launched two calls for inputs, as agreed by the Board at its 46th meeting. The first call is for inputs on efficiency in the operation of the CDM and opportunities for its improvement. The second call is for Designated National Authorities (DNAs) to provide inputs on how to address issues relating to regional distribution of CDM projects, for consideration by the Executive Board at its 47th meeting, which is scheduled to take place from 27-29 May 2009, in Bonn, Germany.

29 March 2009: Addressing delegates at the opening of the seventh session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP 7) and the fifth meeting of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA 5) taking place in Bonn, Germany, from 29 March-8 April 2009, Yvo de Boer, UNFCCC Executive Secretary, reminded them that they only have six weeks of “real negotiating time” over the next eight months to reach an ambitious agreement in Copenhagen.

UNDP Commends Maldives' Intention to Become First Carbon Neutral Country [viewed]

17 March 2009: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) has commended the announcement by President Mohamed Nasheed of the Maldives regarding his country's intention to become the world's first carbon neutral country within the next decade. President Nasheed noted that the commitment would be met through the implementation of an eco-plan to become carbon neutral, shifting from fossil fuels to renewable energy.

13 March 2009: On the occasion of the 31st annual Lions Day at the UN, celebrated in New York, US, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon explained that he will attend the G20 Summit in April in London, UK, where he would remind leaders of the developed world of the need to fulfill their promises to the most vulnerable people and for their stimulus packages to be “green” in order to help combat climate change by including investments in clean energy, renewable energy and energy efficiency.
