Event: EnergyPact-UNCTAD Special Session: The Global South Agenda for a Sustainable World [viewed]

Co-organized by the EnergyPact Foundation and the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), this special session will address the role of of the Global South and the South-South Cooperation in meeting challenges of Climate Change and Sustainable Development. The meeting will examine the way in which the challenges of climate change can be met in a sustainable manner by focusing on developing countries and particularly, on the dynamics of South-South cooperation.

Event: CIF FIP Pilot Countries Meeting [viewed]

The Climate Investment Funds (CIF) Forest Investment Program (FIP) will hold a meeting of its pilot countries to evaluate progress and work ahead in reaching its objective of reducing deforestation and forest degradation (REDD) and promoting sustainable forest management (SFM). Pilot countries participating in FIP are: Brazil, Burkina Faso, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Indonesia, Laos, Mexico and Peru.

GEF, IFC to Support Climate Change Mitigation Business Models [viewed]

20 October 2011: The International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank Group, will launch a US$60 million financial mechanism to support alternative business models for climate change mitigation in developing countries, providing companies with strategies and tools to provide products and services aimed at reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The UN Environmental Programme Sustainable Buildings and Climate Initiative (UNEP-SBCI) Fall Symposium on Sustainable Buildings is being hosted by T.C. Chan Center for Building Simulation and Energy Studies. ILRI-Backed Adaptation Insurance Programme Pays Herders in Kenya [viewed]

Tablet Computer Programme Reduces Paper Consumption during UNCCD COP 10 [viewed]

21 October 2011: During the tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP 10), which took place in Gyeongnam Province, Republic of Korea, the UNCCD Secretariat partnered with the provincial government and SK Telecom to loan 1000 Android-based Samsung Galaxy Tablet personal computers to conference participants. The tablets permitted easy access to official documents and the daily journal along with a variety of other material.
