24 June 2011: The UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UN/ISDR) has announced that the Government of the Maldives has endorsed its Strategic National Action Plan (SNAP), which integrates disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation. According to UN/ISDR, the Maldives' SNAP represents a world first in integrated approaches to DRR and climate change adaptation.

20 June 2011: The Air Pollution and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Data Initiative, which is supported by the Clean Air Initiative for Asian Cities (CAI-Asia) and the World Bank through its Development Grant Facility (DGF), is calling for data on air pollution, GHG emissions and related data and statistics for the transport and energy sectors from institutions, corporations, partnerships, forums and other groups.

This workshop is organized by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the International Energy Agency's (IEA) Renewable Energy Technology Deployment (RETD). It will address the impact of six drivers on energy scenarios for the period 2015-2050 and its possible implications on renewable energy outlook and policy needs in the short term. Invited experts are to present their latest insights into what the various scenarios will mean in terms of short term policy implications, and to map new scenarios and strategy needs.

This Forum was cancelled due to flooding in Bangkok. It was being organized by the Regional Climate Change Adaptation Knowledge Platform for Asia and the Asia Pacific Adaptation Network. Convening under the theme "Mainstreaming Adaptation in Development: Adaptation in Action," this Forum will provide an opportunity to share findings and innovations, opportunities and challenges in mainstreaming climate change adaptation into development. Panel sessions will address, inter alia: managing water for food and agriculture; disaster management and climate change adaptation; transport and communication infrastructure; gender and adaptation mainstreaming; business responsibilities and contributions; options for small island States; climate-induced migration and livelihood security; and integrating adaptation and mitigation actions. The Adaptation Knowledge Platform has been jointly established by the Asian Institute of Technology/UN Environment Programme Regional Resource Centre for Asia and the Pacific (AIT - UNEP RRC.AP) the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), the Swedish Environmental Secretariat for Asia (SENSA) and UNEP with funding support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). The Adaptation Network, part of the Global Adaptation Network, aims to build climate resilience of vulnerable human systems, ecosystems and economies through the mobilization of knowledge and technologies to support adaptation capacity building, policy-setting, planning and practices.

24 June 2011: The Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) Sixth Asia Clean Energy Forum 2011, themed “New Business Models and Policy Drivers - Building the Low-Carbon Future,” took place from 22-24 June 2011 in Manila, Philippines, preceded by preparatory meetings from 20-21 June. The Forum was framed around four overarching thematic areas: policy and regulation; financing and investment; innovative business models; and energy for all.

24 June 2011: The UN Open-ended Informal Consultative Process (ICP) on Oceans and the Law of the Sea has completed its meeting on the theme “contributing to the assessment, in the context of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), of progress to date and the remaining gaps in the implementation of the outcomes of the major summits on sustainable development and addressing new and emerging challenges.”

23 June 2011: The Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance (Ramsar Convention) and the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) participated in a meeting of the national coordinators of the International Union for Conservation of Nature's (IUCN) Mangroves Ecosystem for Climate Change and Livelihoods (MESCAL) project, which followed up on progress of the project and sought to ensure that MESCAL activities fit with the new Regional Wetlands Action Plan for Pacific Islands.
