30 March 2010: The UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) Secretariat has discussed ways to support the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in its efforts to promote and implement policies for sustainable land management in the face of challenges posed by climate change and prolonged droughts.
30 March 2010: The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has launched a survey to gather information on all existing agricultural mitigation projects in developing countries into a comprehensive database. The survey aims to identify existing agricultural projects that either reduce, avoid or absorb/sequester greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through agricultural practices.
29 March 2010: The 20th session of the Joint Parliamentary Assembly between African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries and the EU is being held in Tenerife, Spain, from 29 March-1 April 2010, to further discuss climate change cooperation, among other things.
24 March 2010: The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has published the Statement on the Status of the Global Climate in 2009, an annual survey by the agency about the weather and climate change. In the Statement, the WMO highlights that the first decade of the new millennium was the warmest on record.
The 7th meeting of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Joint Workshop will take place in Bonn, Germany.
This workshop is being convened as part of the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) Technology Roadmap creation process for biofuels for transport, which aims to offer technical, policy, legal, market and organizational guidelines for successful development of sustainable biofuels for transport. At this workshop, researchers and representatives of government and industry will discuss the development of conversion pathways for advanced biofuels, production costs, infrastructure requirements, vehicle compatibility, and other technology-related topics over a four-decade timeframe.
The UNCCD Secretariat is organizing Land Day 3 to meet in parallel with the 10th session of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP 10).
30 March 2010: The “Weekly” newsletter of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), for the period 29 March-2 April 2010, reports on the meeting of the Extended Bureau of the UNECE Committee on Environmental Policy, which approved guidelines on air quality monitoring and furthered preparations for the seventh Ministerial Conference “Environment for Europe.”
30 March 2010: The 2010 Joint Annual Meetings of the African Union (AU) Conference of Ministers of Economy and Finance, and the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) Conference of Ministers of Finance, Planning and Development, took place on 29-30 March 2010, in Lilogwe, Malawi. The meetings were preceded by the Committee of Experts meeting, which took place from 25-28 March 2010.
