The Fourth Policy Board meeting of the UN-REDD Programme will include a field visit, which will provide an opportunity to explore current issues, challenges and concerns about REDD+ (reducing emission from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, including conservation, sustainable forest management (SFM) and stock enhancement).

22 January 2009: The fifth issue of the UN-REDD Programme Newsletter provides an overview of events surrounding the UN Copenhagen Climate Change Conference related to reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries (REDD). These events included the production by the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) of a draft decision on methodological issues, which was adopted by the 15th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 15), and references to REDD being included in the Copenhagen Accord.

20 January 2010: The UN Economic Comission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) have signed an agreement to produce a series of studies on the economics of climate change in eight South American countries.
20 January 2010: On the occasion of the XVI Consultative Group meeting and the XVI General Authority meeting of the Plan of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment and Coastal Areas of the Southeast Pacific (CPPS), Ahmed Djoghlaf, Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), highlighted the impacts of climate change on marine biodiversity.
20 January 2009: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) has approved an emergency project to help restore power, which was lost from the Port au Prince earthquake, to key medical facilities and refugee camps. The US$3 million grant, co-financed with matching grants from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the World Bank Group, will use solar energy to produce clean electricity for medical centers, vaccine refrigeration and other critical relief efforts.
