21 December 2009: In his briefing to the UN General Assembly (UNGA) on the outcome of the UN Copenhagen Climate Change Conference, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon identified a number of tasks that the international community should now undertake.
18 December 2009: The Governments of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Lithuania, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain took part in a ceremony on 18 December 2009, at UN Headquarters in New York, US, to indicate their support for the International Tropical Timber Agreement, 2006 (ITTA, 2006).
18 December 2009: The 2009 Global South-South Development Expo took place from 14-17 December 2009, at the World Bank facilities in Washington DC, US.
16 December 2009: The World Food Programme (WFP) has launched a pilot programme in Sudan and Uganda to provide fuel-efficient stoves to approximately 150,000 women, to reduce the risk of violence that women face when collecting firewood as well as to protect women's health, the local environment and reduce carbon emissions.
16 December 2009: During the UN Copenhagen Climate Change Conference, the Governments of Australia, France, Japan, Norway, the UK and the US collectively agreed to dedicate US$3.5 billion as fast-start climate change financing between 2010-2012 for REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, including conservation, sustainable forest management (SFM) and stock enhancement).
19 December 2009: The UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark, took place from 7-19 December 2009, and included the 15th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 15) to the UNFCCC and the fifth session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (COP/MOP 5).
18 December 2009: The World Health Organization (WHO) has released a fact file titled "10 Facts on Children's Environmental Health," which summarizes environment-related causes and conditions of the nearly three million deaths of children under five years old every year.
16 December 2009: The World Health Organization (WHO) has released a report titled "Global Health Risks," an assessment of leading risks to global health that provides detailed global and regional estimates of premature mortality, disability and loss of health attributable to 24 global risk factors, including climate change.
4 December 2009: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) Country Office in Colombia hosted a training workshop on climate change for 45 participants from various UN interagency groups, including the UN Emergency Team (UNETE), the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC), and the Inter-agency Group on Climate Change (GICC), NGOs and other agencies.
